Nobody’s Stepping Down

I didn’t watch the debate between Biden and Trump. I already know who I’m voting for and I knew that shitshow wasn’t going to change my opinion.

I don’t watch the news either. I have a newsreader that pulls feeds and I can read the stories important to me, but I don’t watch any of the major news entertainment channels. They all say the same thing in different ways. 

Despite all that, the only thing I seem to see everywhere are calls to Biden to step down, or opinions why Trump should step down. Stop it. Neither of them is going to step down. They’re both too embedded in party politics (and one with an unhealthy desire for power and revenge) to do what’s “best” for the citizens, the country, and the rest of the world. 

I may sound defeatist, but I think I’m a realist. What is going to happen is we’re going to hear several months of political attack ads, name calling, gaffes, and pundits telling us how we’re supposed to think and vote. We’ll vote. One of them will win. We’ll deal with the fallout. And then we’ll have to hope we get our shit together for the 2028 election. 

I’m not willing to run for public office, so this is my fate. I accept that. If you don’t like your fate, be more active in politics. Run for local, state, or federal office. In the meantime, I’ll be over here ignoring as much of the terrible news cycle as possible.
