Tear Down That Wall
Thanks to my high school friend, Louisa, for reminding me that it’s been 35 years since the Berlin Wall fell.
I was living in Wiesbaden Germany at the time and can remember the feeling of love, hope, and celebration that had taken over the entire country. To me, it feels like such a paradox of what’s happening in the world right now with far-right political parties winning across the globe, fear and hatred ruling people’s emotions rather than tolerance, understanding, and cooperation, and propaganda overriding common sense and facts. History has shown, time and time again, that ruling people through fear never ends well.
Vox has a great video about the creation and eventual fall of the Berlin Wall (8 min): https://youtu.be/Mn4VDwaV-oo?si=pQEEUcrYdt_fa7e4
